Lily isn't exactly the welcome wagon type, although that doesn't mean she hasn't made an effort to get to know her neighbours. Even in New York, it was always helpful to know who might be living across the hall and whether or not they were the type of person who might be useful at some point down the line.
Someone new has moved onto her floor recently and although she hasn't met him yet, she's seen him coming and going a few times. He's young, well dressed and looks like he has a hell of a lot more money than anyone else in the building which means, in at least one way, he's probably exactly the type of person she'd like to know. Even so, she isn't going to go knock on his door to introduce herself and it's only a coincidence one evening when she's coming home from the studio that she finds herself waiting for the elevator with him.
"Hi," she says, turning slightly to look at him. "I think you live on my floor. Third, right?" She knows he lives on her floor, but she's not about to say as much.

But I've seen her before. She's alluring in an undeniable way, even if I usually prefer blondes. I've wondered, at least once, what it might take to break her confidence. Would a pair of pliers be enough?
"That's right," I say, extending my hand, "Pat Bateman. Patrick."

"You're new to the building, aren't you?" she asks. "Which probably means new to the city." The way this place works, though, she's never completely sure.

"You're observant, Lily. I've been in the building a little over a month," I say, and I would rather she minded her own fucking business -- having anyone notice when I come and go from the building is... inconvenient. "I live in New York City."

"And California before that," she says. "Now... this place." Whatever it is or isn't, it's not quite New York.

"Or I used to. I've gotten a job at a local investment firm. It's a bit of a step down from what I'm used to."

Where I end up living could have a huge impact on how well I fit in, here.

It's the only real reason she hasn't seriously looked into moving just yet.

"I haven't gone to the ballet here. The company you're with-- does it... align with your expectations?" It, of course, wouldn't be on par with the NYCB, but she hadn't specified what company she'd been with.

Ballerinas, though. I can see how they might have their... uses.
"When's your next performance?"

My secretary, who's not Jean, but probably still in love with me.
