"We should go somewhere else," Lily murmured against the curve of Eden's ear before she let her teeth drag softly over her skin again. The pool was lovely, especially as the sun set, their bodies warm in the cool water, but for the things she had in mind, they wouldn't have quite as much fun out in the open where anyone might walk by. Lily had no problem being outdoors, sometimes the threat of being caught was half the fun, but what she didn't want was an interruption.

This would be far better for the both of them without any of that.

"Your place is closer," she pointed out with a small smile. "But mine isn't that far either."

In case there was any reason they couldn't go to Eden's, she wanted to give her an easy out.

"Yours might be better," Eden said, eyes falling shut. As willing as she was to stay where they were, what Lily suggested sounded preferable. The last thing she wanted, though, was for them to get interrupted by Claire coming home; she might have had a room of her own, but island doors didn't exactly come with locks. With as long as it had been since she'd last been with anyone, she wasn't about to let this get cut short that way,"I have a housemate. We don't need any surprises."

Lily pulled back slightly, then leaned in again to press a lingering kiss to Eden's mouth before she reached for the side of the pool and lifted herself out of the water. Her place really wasn't that far, but she'd much rather get there faster, even if it made her look eager. There was no sense in pretending she wasn't interested, especially now.

"Coming?" she asked with a grin, then offered her hand to Eden to help her out of the water.

Eden almost laughed, reaching for Lily's hand as she climbed up out of the water. "If I didn't know better, I'd almost say you planned this," she said, knowing full well that Lily just wasn't the planning kind. Even if she'd had some idea or inclination, she couldn't imagine the other woman going to all that trouble when she could have just taken the straightforward way through and succeeded just as well. "Lead the way."

Even though she was sure Eden knew it, Lily grinned and said, "I'm not really one for making plans. Life is much more fun when you don't worry about where you're going." And that wasn't always true -- she'd had goals, of course, plans when it came to her career -- it was true most of the time and it was especially true on the island. She'd heard enough stories now to know how often people disappeared. It was the best place in the world to just take what you wanted and stop worrying about what people might think.

Collecting her things, Lily slipped her feet back into her sandals, then headed for the east beach. "I'm out by the dance studio," she said. "Surprise."

"I would never have guessed it," Eden teased. Wrapping her sarong back around her waist, she grabbed her things and followed after Lily. "You by the dance studio." If it had been anyone else, she might have teased a little about being so wrapped up in work, but it was never that way with Lily. There was hardly anything that seemed like work around her. She simply did what she felt like doing, and there were some things she happened to feel like doing more often; and yet, Eden couldn't help feeling, she could have used some of Lily's drive for herself, even if it always felt like the wrong name for what Lily possessed. "At least you have it to yourself."

"I couldn't have a roommate," Lily admitted, hooking her hair behind her ear as she walked. She hadn't always lived alone; there had been her family first, of course, and two different roommates while she lived in California, but she'd learned fairly early on that she preferred having a place to herself.

"I like my space," she said, then smiled over at Eden. "I like my privacy." It made bringing people home much easier.

"Oh, privacy," said Eden and laughed. "Remind me again what that is?" She wouldn't have traded her situation, of course. There was no way she would ever have wanted Claire to live alone, not unless the other girl wanted to (and perhaps even not then, not yet, when she was still so young and Eden owed her father such a debt), but there were some serious drawbacks to living with anyone, let alone a teenager.

"Well, when it comes time to bring someone home, you never have to worry about putting a sock on the door," Lily teased with a grin, brushing a few stray branches out of their way as they walked. The idea of living with someone on the island had never even crossed her mind. She'd spent so many years on her own at this point that she wasn't even sure she'd be able to live with someone.

"Having a roommate might drive me a little crazy," she admitted.

"Easier just to share the bed temporarily, is that it?" Eden teased. She understood, though, even if she felt the impulse to explain why Claire was still around, why living on her own was, at this point, out of the question for Eden. This wasn't the time or place for it, though. The last thing she could keep on her mind for long was her teenage ward, not when she was still too aware of the way Lily moved as she walked.

"No one else to clean up after that way," Lily teased in return, though that wasn't the reason she hadn't lived with anyone in so long. And it wasn't the reason she'd never settled down with anyone either. In truth, if she really thought about it, Lily would have to say she wasn't necessarily opposed to the idea, but no one had made it seem like it would have to be that way either.

People let her get away with this, so she continued on.

"I guess most people wouldn't think it, but I like having time alone," she admitted as they neared the studio. Her hut lay just beyond.

"It's not the first thought that comes to mind," Eden said, "but it makes sense." Given how social Lily could be, she thought, she probably needed time alone, the opportunity and space to recalibrate and not have to deal with anyone but herself. It could get tiring, being around people all the time. Eden wasn't nearly as outgoing and she still found herself needing that.

"I like to challenge people's perceptions," Lily said, but she was grinning as she spoke, mostly teasing. She had no real problem with any of the ways people wanted to see her, however that may be. It was easier to let people make their assumptions and judgments than try to challenge them.

Unless it came to dancing, of course.

"And here we are," she said as they passed the studio. "The closest hut I could find to the dance studio."

"At last," Eden said, with a little, teasing gasp. "You've been hiding this from me." There was, she knew, no real effort in that, or at least she doubted there was. They'd just never had occasion to visit each other at home before. She'd probably walked right past this spot a hundred times since meeting Lily and never known. Thinking that served as a reminder, though, of just why she was here now, a thought that made her bite her lip and glance over, less nervous than anticipatory.

"Well, it is remarkably special," Lily answered with a grin, although in reality, the hut was little more than a place to sleep. It was nice, it was clean, but she hadn't done much in the way of decorating. Most of her personality became obvious when one went through her clothes, flipped through the pieces she'd collected, past the swan costume she'd arrived in, but the hut itself was just a hut.

"Come on it," she said, pushing open the door and offering Eden her hand again.

"Oh, well, I see that," Eden teased, hand finding Lily's as she followed her inside. The huts on the island might not have been anything spectacular, but they were sturdy and neat and free of charge, which was more than could be said of most of her previous homes. Besides, right now, the decor was hardly her first concern. "Very cozy."

"Yeah, it's nice," Lily said as she dropped her bag and pushed the door closed behind them, then tugged Eden close to her. "It serves its purpose." Which, at the moment, was this. Whatever else she kept the hut for, this was the only reason she had it right now.

"Although I often find myself wishing the bed it came with was a little better," she said as she grinned and reached up with her other hand to tug at the wrap Eden had around her waist.

"Oh, but things can't be that convenient around here," Eden said lightly, leaning in to kiss Lily once she was close. There were plenty of luxuries she could do without and some basic ones she'd seen added to island life since arriving, but somehow, no one had ever figured out the trick of making better beds. She could have sworn it would have been in everyone's best interests, but she wasn't about to figure it out now when she could kiss Lily instead.

With a hum of agreement -- though she couldn't remember what she was agreeing to -- Lily deepened the kiss as she worked the sarong off gently, leaving it puddled on the floor around her feet. At the same time she kicked off her sandals, her hands once again roaming over the warm skin of Eden's arms, her back. She smelled amazing, tasted even better and Lily began to carefully walk backward. The bed was somewhere behind her, but she couldn't be bothered to stop kissing Eden long enough to actually check where it was. They would find it.
